Nujoom Educational Consulting was not born in a boardroom or built from a business template. It was built from lived experience — from the memory of a young man from Marrakesh who stepped off a plane in Springfield, Missouri in 2008 with a J-1 Fulbright visa, a briefcase, and a dream he could barely put into words.

That young man was Karim Moukrime. He had no roadmap for the U.S. higher education system. He had no guide who understood his culture, his language, or the invisible pressures that MENA students and families carry when they make the decision to study abroad. He figured it out — and it was harder than it needed to be. That difficulty never left him. It became the reason Nujoom exists.

Nearly two decades later, Dr. Moukrime holds a Doctor of Education in Instructional Leadership, two master's degrees from Missouri State University — including a thesis on using the Arabic language as a tool for cultural understanding in post-9/11 America — and 17 years of professional experience inside U.S. higher education. He began his career as an English teacher in Morocco, then arrived in the United States as a Fulbright Scholar to teach Arabic at Missouri State University, then went on to teach public speaking as an adjunct faculty member, then served as an international student advisor working directly with F-1 visa students on admissions and regulatory compliance, then as an academic advisor guiding American students through degree planning and career pathways, and finally as a director who built comprehensive student success programs at Drury University. His doctoral research examined how students build the confidence and self-efficacy to succeed in unfamiliar academic environments — the very question Nujoom was built to answer. He navigated J-1, F-1, and H-1B visas, all the way to permanent residency and U.S. citizenship. He has been on every side of the education desk — as the international student, as the teacher, as the advisor, and as the director — and he has written the scholarship on what makes students succeed.

Nujoom — نجوم — means stars in Arabic. Stars have guided travelers across deserts and oceans for centuries. That is what this practice is designed to be: a fixed point of reference in an unfamiliar sky. A trusted voice when the system feels overwhelming. The Fulbright Scholarship is one of the most prestigious international exchange programs in the world, awarded by the U.S. Department of State to scholars of exceptional academic merit. Dr. Moukrime was selected to represent his country — Morocco — as a Fulbright Scholar in 2008.
